Trust or Turn?

Responding to Difficulties in Life

Exodus 14:10-12 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD. 11 And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt? 12  Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.

Who heard the prayers of Israel for a deliverer? God. Who provided Israel with a leader who would deliver them from the Egytians? God. Who cast plaques upon Egypt? God. Who set Israel free? God. Who led Israel with a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night? God. Who hardened Pharoah's heart to pursue Israel? God.

When one is faced with a trial or circumstance in life not to our liking, one should consider God. God delivers his people. God works in the lives of His people for their better benefit (Romans 8:28). God takes what man intends for evil and twists it for His purpose and His glory (Genesis 50:20). The right response by Israel here would have been to trust God, not murmur. How about you and me? Do we trust or turn? Do we praise or complain? Do we have faith or fear?
